Lemonade Stands
Turning lemons into lemonade! - A positive showing inviting ALL to share their ideas about strengthening the neighborhood & state.
It is crucial to recognize how these grassroots conversations bring out neighbors to share not only challenges; but also solutions. That is why we are setting up lemonade stands throughout the district as an opportunity to listen to what the community's needs are.
During our first and most recent lemonade stand on Sunday, May 29th, on Annapolis Dr. in College Village, I heard from a psychologist about how our current addiction care works 10% of the time and that there are other solutions. A small business owner who offers tax services stopped by to share her frustration with the costs of healthcare and the extended time it takes to get state background checks. These are just a couple of examples of the impact that policy-making and legislation have on every one of us. Let us remember that although there are many issues; there are also many solutions... and change is possible!
At our next lemonade stand on Sunday, June 5th, on Standford Dr. in the other half of College Village, over 50 people (from 3mos to 93yo) stopped by our lemonade stand in the College Village neighborhood. Some neighbors were meeting each other for the first time and it sparked great conversations about the history of the neighborhood. We met the spouse of one of the first public health doctors in Alaska and one of the first families to grow cross-country skiing throughout Anchorage.
Keep an eye out for our upcoming lemonade stands in different neighborhoods throughout the district!
